CHILDREN'S FUND MAMAS
Documentary
#ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Children’s Fund ‘MAMAS’ is a Dutch organization dedicated to supporting mothers in South Africa. Its mission is to improve the daily care and well-being of vulnerable children and their mothers. By providing resources, education, and programs, ‘MAMAS’ helps families and communities grow stronger. In this way, children can enjoy a safer and more nurturing environment. In November 2017, actress Sita Vermeulen and CEO Michael van Hoorne traveled to South Africa. During their visit, they explored three local projects funded by ‘MAMAS’. Here, they saw firsthand how the organization’s programs impact mothers and children in some of the country’s most underprivileged townships.
At these projects, children were introduced to cultural arts, such as singing, dancing, and theater. These activities gave them the chance to explore their creativity in a safe and supportive environment. Furthermore, they encouraged self-expression, built confidence, and fostered teamwork and social skills. For many children, these experiences brought joy and accomplishment in otherwise difficult circumstances. For mothers, witnessing their children thrive in these programs provided hope and reassurance. It also created a sense of community, showing them that they are not alone in their challenges. Moreover, these initiatives offered children tools for growth while supporting mothers in their daily efforts.

We transformed this inspiring initiative into a compelling documentary. Consequently, the film raises awareness about the hardships faced by mothers and children in South Africa. At the same time, it motivates viewers to support initiatives that bring meaningful change. Through these stories, the documentary highlights the resilience, creativity, and spirit of the children and their mothers.
